Racing Starlet Report Round 1

Liberty Bishop headed off with JJ Racing Team to Brands Hatch at the weekend for Round 1 of Aprilia Superteen 2016 Championship. The good old British weather turned up as we had rain, sleet, hail and freezing cold winds – all of this did not make for ideal race track conditions!

As they say: “The show must go on”. With the bike prepped for wet conditions, Jack went out and qualified 3rd on the grid for the 4 races ahead over the Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday: Being the coldest of the days sitting around -3° wind chill factor, keeping temperature in the tyres was going to prove tough. Race 1, Jack had a great start leading the race for 8 laps, he caught up with back marker rider at Graham Hill bend who took a slip on the apex! Jack amazingly swerved the fallen rider by inches and took a motor-cross style detour off-road on the grass, keeping the bike upright and back on track into 5th position! With only a few laps to go this is where Jack finished the race. Race 2, went along without a hitch but with track conditions not improving and a slippy grid Jack took another 5th position for the afternoon. A mention of well done to the race marshalls who had a busy day taking care of near on 100 bikes that took a tumble throughout the day – thankfully all riders were OK.

Sunday: Still bitterly cold, blue skies arrived and even a little bit of sunshine shone through the grey clouds. The track was a little damp and soon dried up. Race 1, Jack did not have the greatest of starts along with finding the gearing set up was not pulling out the corners with enough power to catch the leading pack, it was a good race with only a few seconds in it Jack finished up 5th.

JJ55 Win1Race 4, With the gearing adjusted and full dry set up, Jack went out for the final race of the weekend. A cracking start straight to the front of the pack, Jack comfortably lead the race by 3 seconds taking the top podium spot to finish off a well deserved win for Team JJ.

We are very proud to be involved and sponsoring a young lad in his early career development in the world of motor-racing. Well done Jack “JJ” Scott for your maiden season win and we look forward to seeing many more.
